I have a Mitsubishi television ( Model CK-2561R ) purchased in 1984. It is in excellent condition and I want to keep using it, however there is a problem with the speakers. Sometimes every few months the sound will go out, maybe for a week or so, and pressing the speaker reset button has no effect; then it will just start working again. It has done this about twice, and currently the sound is not working. Are there any particular issues that might cause this problem that are fixable? The reason I want to continue using it is I really can't afford a new one and it is in otherwise excellent condition. Thanks!

Intermittent sound problems could be caused by any number of parts inside the TV.
Your best bet would be to get some external speakers and hope that fixes the problem. I didn't check the specs on that TV, but I'm guessing if it's from '84 that it won't have any audio outputs or anything. If you have a cable box or a VCR, you could use the audio output from that to connect to your speakers.
Otherwise, fixing it will be a difficult process because I can almost promise you that the parts required would not be available or you would have to do some component level repair. This process would involve soldering and unsoldering some small parts and a bit of electronics knowledge. Unfortunately, that's the best answer I can give.
