That mower had a 2 year awrranty, is it still under warranty? Sounds like the carb is starving the engine so dismantteling the carb and cleaning it is more in line than the air filter. I think this mower comes with a 6.5 hp Tecumseh engine, is that what you have?

Make sure you have no water in the fuel after sitting all winter. You may have to empty the tank and make sure there are no droplets within. Then use fresh gas.
