I've never taken a taxi before, but I'm going out of town this weekend and am taking one to the airport. Any etiquette about taxis? Do I tip in addition to the fare?

Typically you do tip. Especially if they have to get out of the cab to take your bags out of the trunk.

Thanks. What is considered an appropriate tip? I'll only have one or two bags, in case that makes a difference

15 -20 percent of the total fare... if he's pleasant. That's a good baseline for most service related tipping.

Do I tip in addition to the fare?Hello justy:
If he helps with your luggage, give him 15%.

Yup I agree, 15% is more than generous. If he was exceptionally helpful and you feel so inclined, another 5% for good measure won't hurt.

Oh carp. Just realized how old this thread is. My bad. So how was the first taxi ride and how much did you tip? :D

First taxi ride was good. He was very friendly and helped me with my luggage so I tipped 15 or 20, I forget which. Then there were lots of taxi rides to follow once we were in vegas, only one bad experience (one taxi driver took us around a super long way instead of just driving the way every other taxi driver had taken us. We weren't too happy about that, my aunt still tipped her, but not much.)

Aww I hate it when drivers do that. They think they can take advantage of tourists :( Well glad you had fun!
