Is it true, that if you think a person is having a heart attack or stroke, you should first call 911 and then give the person an aspirin that is mild in strength to lessen the damage of the stroke or heart attack?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is true. 80mg aspirin should be given at the first sign.

Getting a history is important, if the patient has any bleeding disorders or ulcers, if their on any medication that will interfer with aspirin, and IF they are in fact having a heart attack.

In ireland you need a recongised indate first aid course under your belt before you are allowed to give any medication.

If you THINK someone is having a heart attack my advice is call for help.

Big difference between a stroke and heart attack.

If it's a stroke, look for FAST.

F.. FACE, is their face lopsided.
A... ARMS, can they move both arms, or is there weakness in th arms.
S.. SPEECH, is their speech slurred.
T... TIME.. get help as soon as possible.

I'm going to back up a bit... It's usually the hospital that gives the aspirin.

There are instances when getting a medical history is not possible, in those cases the MDs have other choices of medication if necessary.
