I own my own house and I have a roommate. He doesn't have a written contract but said that he will be moving and doesn't want to pay rent on the last month. Can I give him 24 hours to move or am I out of line asking him to move so quickly?

No you can't give him 24 hours, but depending on your area, you may be able to give him a 3-10 day pay or quit notice.
