Howdy, I have a 94 ford ranger v6 4x4 auto transm with 94000 miles. My problem is this, depinding on the weather I let my truck warm up 10-15 minutes every morning. The temp gauge always reads warm but my transm always acts like its cold. I have to drive 1-2 miles before m7y transm will warm up and shift gears like it should. After that it runs fine the rest of the day. Im desabled and not a mechanic, and have to depend on this truck for transportaion every day. Any and all info-input would be great, thanks for your time

When was your last transmission oil change done? Are you using the factory recommended oil in the transmission ?

Drop and clean the transmission pan, change the filter, and refill with full synthetic ATF (e.g. Mobil 1 Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF or Amsoil Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF). Performance, while the ATX is cold, will be dramatically improved. Both of these products meet Ford's Mercon and Mercon V requirements.

I did some checking and found out that it is the filter. The oil is brand new. We are changing the filter and flushing the transmission. And going with mobil 1. Thanks for your help!

On Fords, you can use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in your power steering unit. Improves performance, protection, and gas mileage. Use a small pump or squeeze bulb to do several partial changes. Easy job.

Since you are dependent on this truck, use Mobil 1 5W-30 in the engine. You will only need to change the oil and filter every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. If you use Mobil 1 5W-30 EP and a Mobil 1 EP oil filter, go 10,000 miles or 1 year between oil changes.

Also remember that with what your doing now as money comes in you also need to continue the process and change the other fluids in your drivetrain also. Since you have a 4 wheel drive there should be a transfer case and your differential unit on both axles. Be sure to get those fluids changed as soon as you can afford it.
