The apartment I moved into was gutted and treated and completely refurbished due to a previous tenant having cats in the apartment for 8 years and never let them out. A/C was completely sanitized and ducts done as well. Even the ceiling in my hall and bathroom around the ducts was torn out and sprayed with "killz" and new insultaion put in but when I turn on air I still get the smell of ammonia/cat urine. Now I'm being told I may need a new a/c unit to get rid of the smell. Is this possible or the a/c company just trying to sell me a new a/c unit?

Your A/C system can be cleaned for the smell . It's the duct work that would be subject to hold the smell.

A/C unit and duct work have been cleaned and a chemical that is used when decomposition of a body is present was used in the ducts but cat urnie smell is still present. Thank you for your help though.

I just moved and the previous tenant had cats, urine odors were throughout the house. The landlord compensated me for repainting all the interior walls I added the Air-ReNu paint additive that a friend recommended and thankfully, the house stays smelling fresh no more odors. One application works continually to remove odors, no re-application required. Check it out www.air-renu.com
