Unfortunately, ponds are pretty much a magnet to the snakes that are already near your home. A pond tends to attract wildlife to it. :) There ARE things you can do that might help though. First and foremost, if you have any piles of rocks, wood stumps or a compost pile, make sure that they are located as far away from the pond as possible. Keep the grass in the area closest to the pond well trimmed. Remove weeds and trim up the bottoms of any shrubs around the pond.

In addition, you can try putting the kind of mouse traps that are enclosed and trap the mice inside around the pond. That way a food source is removed. Be sure to use the ones that trap the mice inside so the snakes can't eat the dead mice!

The good news is that you can also buy an electronic snake repellent and even snake fencing if you can't eliminate the snakes using the methods above. Personally, I love the snakes around my pond because they eat so many insects and their poop is great for the garden around the pond. Remember, the snakes were already there before the pond, so reduce the areas that attract snakes around the pond before using repellents or snake fences or they probably won't work.

Good luck!
