I just got a 3 month old beagle last week from a pet store. We are working on house breaking her. We are using a crate. She stays in it at night and when we are gone to work. We will take her outside to the same spot and stay for 15-20 minutes without her doing anything. As soon as we come inside she will urinate on the floor. The last 2 days she has pooped in her crate while we were away. We are using a divider in which she pushes the poop through it. Any advise on how to handle this?

It may take a while, but to get them to relieve themselves outside, what you have to do is keep them moving until they can't hold it any longer. Let her stop and sniff when she wants to. If she doesn't do anything, move on. Eventually nature will call. Then praise her. Rave about what a good dog she is. Don't too quick to go back in. They love being out. Give her a few more minutes outside to break the connection of elimination and being taken back in.

Expect problems leaving a 3 month old all day in a crate. More so with one perhaps abused in a pet store. If you can't make it home at lunch time to give her a break, find somebody that can, a neighbor, a professional dogs walker, somebody.
