I worked for a company they hired me I only had a copy of my ID and they told me that's fine as long as I get my Id within 2 weeks of being hired I started to work an they reffuse to give me my check,I talked to the person in charge of the payroll and she told me the same thing that I need my id I explained to her they hired me without it an I can't get it without having money to get a new one, she then got nasty an told me I should have borrowed money to get it... I said if I knew someone that I could borrow money from I would but I don't that's why I need my check

What ID? If you don't have anything showing a social security number or tax ID, then can't pay you.

I obtained a copy of my licence from my school, I gave them a photo copy of my drivers licence so I could start working explaining that I lost mine and needed to get a new one and they photo copied my social (I had my social but had to get a new Drivers Licence) now they hired me as I said and they are holding two paychecks and won't give them to me saying I need to bring in an actual ID to get my checks but I can't get it without money (my checks) what legal actions can I take... or is it leagal for them to do this

Hello J:

Scott is right. They can't hire you without verifying your legal status, and you would have had to provide an ID then... But, if they DID hire without those documents, then they have to PAY you.

SUE the bastards in small claims court.
