I am waiting on a job offer for a company and their HR department called and said they had a problem with my education verification. My school I attended could only verify that I attended the school but not graduate. It is a 2 year junior college. The HR manager, asked me to send her a copy of my certificate. After contacting the school for the certificate, I was informed that I had enough credits to be transferred however I was 4 credit short of math to get my certificate. Do you think when I tell the HR manager that, I will no longer be hired?

If you said you had a degree and you do not, yes. If the company wants a two year degree and you don't have one, yes.

If it is not all that important to them they will hire you based on your interview. I'd keep in mind that they will now question all of your credentials.

I do hiring for my company. Whether you have a degree is NOT a usual error or mistake. I would not hire you.

Is a two year degree required for the job ? Then yes.

Next how do you know that you did not have a degree ? If you had a degree, they would have given you a certificate,?

So you have no choice but to tell the truth and see what happens, no way to lie about it

It will depend on other factors. But, in these days, with so many applicants for a job, anything questionable on your application may kill the offer.

Clearly they thought highly enough about you to give you the opportunity to correct what the school told them. So be honest, tell them you were under the impression you have gotten your degree and this is the first time its come up. Tell them you plan on completing the additional 4 credits ASAP.

If they don't accept that and decline to offer you the job, then change your resume until you do complete the degree.
