Try removing and reinstalling the printheads, check to see if there is ink or any other foreign matter on the connectors both in the cradle and the print head if there is clean with a lint free cloth, and try again it is possible that there is a problem with the printhead, but try to reseat the print head and clean the contacts first.

There are usually two levers on the cannon print head are for a printer only model. One is for paper width and the other locks the head down. Remove the cartridges and then flip the removal lever and take the head out and follow cmeeks instructions. If the gold contacts seem oxidized rather than inky, use a clean piece of brown paper bag to rub them shiny again. The paper trick acts like extremely fine sand paper, and removes literally no gold. Print heads do get clogged up, especially if you don't use them for a long time, the ink inside the print heads channels can dry out. Using ink refills instead of buying the OEM brand can also cause issues with the heads.

I had a similar problem with my Canon i450. I followed the preceding advice and in addition I washed the print head in rubbing alcohol. Looks brand new and works like a charm, again.

Rubbing alcohol will work but it has glycerin added to it and it is only 70% pure there is also a good bit of water. Denatured alcohol or even grain alcohol the 180 proof type has less impurities.

Thank you for your information. I thought rubbing alcohol was pure. I'll pick up some denatured alcohol if I have to do a similar cleaning.

Rubbing alcohol comes in 91% as well as 70. If it had glycerine added to it it would be in the ingredients and I have never seen anything but alcohol and water there.
