In 2004 I signed up for graduate school course with Kaplan online because their recruiter told me that the MA in Education would allow me to get my teaching certification in Florida even though my undergraduate degree was not in Education. That turned out to be untrue. They also signed me up for private student loans to pay their tuition. I tried to stop the classes as soon as I found out that they wouldn't help me. The bottom line is that now a collection agency is chasing me for the money (about $2,100.00). The agency representative was abusive and implied that he could go after my SSI (I am disabled). I told him he was out of line and abusive, then I ended the call. We're nearing the seven-year mark on this loan. To the best of my knowledge there is no court judgement on this loan (I searched in my state of residence at the time). I have no assets and no bank account. I certainly can't pay this debt. What are my options in dealing with this issue? Thanks!
