I have a 15.5 HP OHV Kohler engine on a Sears lawn tractor.
End of last summer, engine will blow / spray gas out of exhaust upon starting. I also notice smell of gas in shed. Engine runs well once started.
Is there a possible problem with float or main jet?
There is a solenoid on bottom of fuel bowl, what does that do? (Safety shut-off?? )

Thanks
Joe

Joe,

I just had the same problem. First - do not run it this way! Secondly, smell your oil. I bet it smells like gas. Gas is going past the needle seat in the carberator and gravity is causing it to flood and it will also get in the crankcase. The fix, install a shutoff valve in the gas line then put it in the off position. Change your oil. Try to start the engine with the fuel line off to blow out all gas in the exhaust. Once that is done, start the engine, run for awhile then TURN OFF the fuel valve and let the motor die then turn off the ignition. I would then change your oil again and change the oil filter. You should be good to go. Just remember to shut your engine off in this fashion every time.

Good luck!

The fix is take your carb. Off clean and replace the needle valve check your float.
The post was right about not running, change oil . If you have a oil filter replace that also .
The inline shut off doesn't fix the problem .
