Hi cassandra, I know this thread is old but what was the outcome of your case? I am in a similar situation and the monetary value of what I so stupidly tried to take was approximately the same as yours.

Same thing happened to me last Friday, I got caught stealing $450 worth of items in hudson bay mall, two undercover arrested me, they got my information but I gave them a wrong address and a wrong phone number. But they got my right name because they happened to check it in the immigration. I have scheduled this nov 13 to do fingerprinting & picture taking. Ill be on court this coming 21st of November.
*I'm a first offender
*21 years old
*permanent resident in canada (so could this affect my application of citizenship?)
*no money to pay a lawyer.
PLEASE I NEED ANSWER :(
I don't want to be in jail.
