Is the 'Mouse you are refuring to a separate mouse or are you talking about the touch pad on the laptop?
If it is the touch pad on the laptop that is not working then chances are it was just disabled by mistake. Most laptop manufacturers assing a key somewhere between F1 - F8. You normaly have to press the "Fn" key together with the corrosponding key.
Other manufactures put a dedicated button somewhere on the laptop, normaly just above the touch pad.
