View Full Version : Symmons temptrol(?) shower w/Brasscraft Handle

Unidentified bathroom fixtures were installed in the house before we moved in several years ago. The shower controller was recently identified as Symmons by one plumbing veteran (possibly a Temptrol based on the blow-up schematics that I have seen).

The handle, which matches the other bathroom fixtures may be Aquabrass and has a handle that would otherwise fit the lav set (probably a common size). There is a brass adapter on the end of the Symmons stem to reduce to match the Brasscraft handle. The adapter was torqued in half while I attempted another repair. I haven't found ANYBODY who has ever seen one of these before, let alone knows where to get a replacement.

If I can't get a stem/handle adapter, I am in a Catch-22: Replace the architectural fittings in the entire bathroom or open the walls and replace the shower controller. Neither is appealing.

Any suggestions for possible source?

Hi Rpransom

Definitely a symmons valve. I have been installing symmons valves for over 31 years now and have never seen this setup. I have seen symmons handle EXTENSION KITS, but this doesn't seem to apply here.

All I can recommend at this point is to contact brasscraft and email these pics. To them. May be they can help! Check them out @ BrassCraft (http://www.brasscraft.com/)

Otherwise, you caqn contact symmons direct and see if they can help. At a minimum, you may just be able to purchase a nice brass handle for the symmons valve... perhaps it would be OK for now... ;) Contact symmons @ Symmons Industries, Inc. - Bathroom and Kitchen Faucets, Shower Valves and Accessories (http://www.symmons.com/)

Back to you...

Mark,
Thanks. I left an on-line query at Symmons... several weeks ago. It is not in Symmons or Aquabrass on-line catalog, so I don't even know the original manufacturer to chase. Even Aquabrass is an educated guess. It is unlikely that it was custom manufactured, so SOMEBODY out there knows who and where.
No success trying to find a temporary replacement handle to fit the Symmons stem from stock parts.
Time to start making phone calls to manufacturers.

Exactly how I would proceed... ;)

Call the manufacturer and talk with technical support. Best bet is to send them an e-mail of the pictures above. They should be able to help in some way!

Good luck!
