hello , I'm looking for a old black and white movie about a gangster who dyes his hair and changes his clothes and sneaks away from his men and goes on a vacation to a boarding house in what I think was upper New York . He falls in love with the woman who owns the place who lives their with her grandmother and her grandfather .the grandfather sits on the porch pretending to be crazy so he has no chores around the house , the grandfather recognizes the man as the gangster from the news paper and they agree not to tell of each others secrets , some local hoodlums show up trying to chase the family from the property and harass the guest . The gangster not wanting to blow his secret takes beatings and constant harassment from the thugs until they go to far and badly hurt the woman he has fallen in love with , he makes one phone call saying its me and I need you here now , as the other guest call him a coward he goes to his room returning later with his hair dyed back and his clothes changed , he has the swagger of that gangster back when the local hoods return and start harassing the guest again . As he stands face to face with them one of the hoods who throughout the whole movie kept saying mister I know you from somewhere but I can't place you starts screaming for mercy and running away when car after car after car of mobsters pull in with machine guns to see their bosses face beaten up and start asking him by name who did it . Who laid a finger on you boss . With terrified expressions on there faces the men are loaded in cars and taken for a ride at the bosses insistence . The woman exiting the house tells him she love him and does not care who he is . He tells her she is welcome to come with him and work at one of his many brothels and be one of his many woman , she slaps him and returns to the house with the grandmother . The grandfather says thank you to him knowing it was an act . The boss gets in the back of a car alone and as it drives back toward the city the movie ends with him all alone crying for the woman he loves . I saw this over 35 years ago as a child and that's all I can remember , thank you
