CHILD SUPPORT NIGHTMARE
My ex-wife from Ivory Coast West Africa really did her homework. First, she asks me to marry her than after we got married and INS investigated our marriage. We had a son. After that, our marriage turned soured. This took place from 1992 to 1994. After we had our son, she revealed to me that she was HIV positive, which really blew my mind. I looked at alternatives in making our relationship work and still being healthy but that is not what she wanted. I gave her a divorce in 1999 while she lived in Tampa and I lived in Oakland. She sent me some papers I signed them. In 2006, my checks started being garnished. I was in the rear for $83,000.00. I did not know what hit me. My license was suspended and I was out of a job. My current wife was upset. I am HIV negative and have been getting check since 1995 but that is not good enough at times. It has messed with my mental and because I am honest, it has messed with my wife mental. The Child support agency takes $100.00 out my check weekly and I work part-time making minimum wage, which leave me very little after bills. I am lost and do not know what to do. There is no justice in this system for the fathers. I am trying to survive and all I hear is stories about what the government is doing but no solutions. Where do I turn?>Personal Info removed<

Please don't post identifying information.

As far as past due child support there is little you can do.

Ongoing? Request a modification.

What do you mean by "you are HIV negative but have been getting check ... but that is not good enough at times"? You haven't been with this woman since 1995 and test negative but are worried?

Your wife needs to see a Physician who specializes in HIV.

I don't know exactly what you are asking.

You had a child. That means child support. She sent you papers, you signed them, what? I'm sorry you are so trusting but that is not the government's fault, nor is not knowing about marriage scams designed for one reason, to get residency and to get your money. It is your job to learn how to fight her in court, but from the sound of it, you are going to lose.
