Last few years I have been living with my Mother and her husband, was their idea, so that to save up for down payment on a home. When getting a loan didn't happen, not sure why, out of the blue said to leave and would put all my belongings from house into garage. I have money but can't get a apartment due to lack of credit so been sleeping in my blazer or friends couch now and then. What if any rights do I have?

Hello c:

You have LOTS of rights, but none that I can see will help you out of your situation... If you wouldn't have left, you could have done some things that would have allowed you to stay in his home longer..

But, now that I think about it, depending on WHEN you left, you MAY have a chance at getting back in. I don't know if THAT'S what you had in mind. If so, you could call the cops and see if they'll force him to let you back in... He CAN'T just put you on the street WITHOUT a court order. It's an illegal eviction, and maybe you can get it reversed.

Sorry, you are just not looking for an apartment or you are too picky, if you have money there are places to rent.

People who are bankrupt, people who are in collections all live and rent.

You have the right to get off your rear and find your own place to live, Your mom does not owe you anything, in fact she can demand you move your stuff and put it into a paid storage.

Do you have rights to what? A right to live off your mother and her husband - no. A right to find an apartment or house? Yes, so get out there and rent/buy one.

I have to agree with others here. Your mother and her husband had no right to just kick you out. They are required to give you reasonable notice to vacate. But, if you did leave, then you may have no recourse for that.

As to getting your own apartment, I can't believe that you are having the trouble you claim. If you have a job and income, you should be able to find a place. Many landlords don't do credit checks, generally only large scale landlords do. So you need to get off the stick and find a place.
