Hi I am a student in canada and just came here last year. I went to a grossary store and due to lots of stuff with me I didn't picked any basket. I place one choclates pack on my bag which was worth just 2- 3 dollor, I done my shopping and when I go to counter I forget that I had a pack in my shopping bag which I didn't paid. When I was coming out the security man come and bring me inside and start doing paper work I ask him sorry and because it was shocking to me I failed to describe anything and he put a charge of theft on me. He called police and they ask me to come police station and court. I don't know what to do. I didn't done that eith that wong intention because I didn't know much about store. I aask him that I know well that there are systems in every store for stopping the person to steal things then why I will do this kind of stuff and just for 2 or 3 dollors. But didn't listen me

Of course not, first you just sound guilty, you put one item in your bag but not the others, and paid for the other items,
You did not hold that one item with the others and did not get a basket up front when you knew you had too much to hold.
Next of course every one, always says they forgot, And everyone does know they watch for theft, but to many it is the fun or thrill to try and get away with it,
At this point, I see little chance of anyone believing you, or even caring that you did not mean to. The fact is you did break the law. So now you need to deal with that.
First you will most likely in Canada get a bill from the store for its time and trouble, they call it a "private fine" so expect ( my guess) 400 to 600 dollar fee or fine from the store.
Then in court, ask for the first offender program, and you will get another fine, and probation.

A process under which the criminal charges are dropped if you comply with a probation program of some sort.

Hi, I wanted to tell you about the result of my case. I had a court date a week before. Everything goes all right. I got a finger printing and court date. On finger printing they took my finger prints and all information. It was a normal process. On my court date I went to court and asked for a duty counsellor. There is no fee for duty counsellor. After that I was given a few documents showing the charges and incident report. It states that I need to pay 50 dollor to a charity and attend a theft stop program of 3 hours. After attending this program I need to go back to court and deposit the documents that I have attended the program and paid the money. Now I just need to attend the program and go and report to court. It was not too much scary. But I have learn a lesson and I will never forget to keep any item like this and forgetting to pay.
