I have a 1 3/4 inch O.D. cast iron pipe flush with concrete and I am installing a shower basin. I found a 2" compression fitting ( too big) for the drain but it is also too short. The rubber ring only goes 1/4 of the way over the pipe. Where do I fine the right fitting?

Hi Jsidwell

There is no "right fitting" here, per say. More likely, is that you will be best to cut the pipe down to below the floor and then install a 2"x1.5" NO-HUB cast iron increaser using a shielded clamp.

I would use an angle grinder with a metal cuting wheel to cut the 1.5" pipe (1.75" OD)... obviously, you'll need to open the floor up a bit, but shouldn't have to go too deep. Be sure to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes..

You could also install a 2"x1.5" reducer into your shower strainer, but will still need to cut the 1.5" cast iron pipe lower, anyway, so either way, you need to open the floor abit to get all this together.

Care to discuss more? If so, let me know, OK?
