I have recently taken a laptop from my workplace and hid it in a location other than the original location I took it from (locked cage). Employees from other company working in that area found the laptop and saw me walking around looking for the laptop and notified my employer. My employer has questioned me as to why I was in the area where I hid the laptop and I have not confessed to anything so far.

I made up excuses that I was just doing something work related there. Are they able to sue me with no witness or video as evidence to my theft? Will fingerprint justify that I stole the laptop?

Thanks for advise

You say there's a fingerprint.. That's evidence. I'd be worrying about criminal charges being levied, and losing your job. If they convict you, your conviction in criminal court is all the evidence they need to convict you in civil court.

The thing with the fingerprints is that we handle laptops from time to time and it is possible that it is there.

Does that mean they can charge me without solid evidence that I removed it from original location and does it matter whether the property has already been returned to the company or not?

What are the chances that charges will be pressed against me

What are the chances that charges will be pressed against meHello again, r:

I have no idea... Relax... If the cops come, don't talk to them. If they charge you, report back.

First it takes lot less evidence to win a civil case ( if they sue you) then to convict you of a criminal case.

So basically if this is the one you normally used, someone can testify you were looking for something in that area. You have no real reason to be there. That in a civil trial could be all they need.

Hi, I am writing this from Alcatraz Island Prison. I have been sentenced to life imprisonment for my crime. Remember kids, crime does not pay. I will pay dearly for my misconduct. Life is tough here and my cell mate threatens to stab me every night before I sleep. I have to put up a tough act each day or the other prisoners would sniff out a weak soul. The prisoners here range from murderers to panty sniffers. I got to gain respect and work my way up the prison social ladder if I hope to break out of this ****hole. O no I got to go. Catch you later mates. I have an escape plan. Will tell you guys about it later.
