Last night after leaving a local bar in Ontario, several friends and myself were walking a short distance to catch a taxi, I then walked over a car parked on the street, it caused several minor dents but nothing major. I was highly intoxicated to the point where I have no memory of this incident and it was something I would normally never do. I was seen by casino security that were across the street and they said it was on camera. I was then detained by the police and brought to a holding cell to spend the night. I was given a fine for public intoxication and initially the police officer said I was lucky to not be getting charged with mischief, but later said that I could still be charged with it. What are the chances that I will be charged with mischief and how long can I expect it to take to be informed if I am charged? If I do get charged, is it possible to avoid getting a criminal record? Also, should I contact the arresting officer to see if I am getting charged? I have no prior history with the police and I am a 20 year old student. I am absolutely terrified of the possibility of getting a record from one error of judgment. I am willing to do anything to not get a criminal record as it would destroy my life. Thank you very much for your time.
