Last night after leaving a local bar in Ontario, several friends and myself were walking a short distance to catch a taxi, I then walked over a car parked on the street, it caused several minor dents but nothing major. I was highly intoxicated to the point where I have no memory of this incident and it was something I would normally never do. I was seen by casino security that were across the street and they said it was on camera. I was then detained by the police and brought to a holding cell to spend the night. I was given a fine for public intoxication and initially the police officer said I was lucky to not be getting charged with mischief, but later said that I could still be charged with it. What are the chances that I will be charged with mischief and how long can I expect it to take to be informed if I am charged? If I do get charged, is it possible to avoid getting a criminal record? Also, should I contact the arresting officer to see if I am getting charged? I have no prior history with the police and I am a 20 year old student. I am absolutely terrified of the possibility of getting a record from one error of judgment. I am willing to do anything to not get a criminal record as it would destroy my life. If I understand you "walked" over a car, you mean on top of the car? If so, this could be a lot more than minor damage, the cost of getting even small dents and often repainting if needed in a hood, a roof, a truck could be in the 1000's So at this point I would not make any comment what so ever and hire an attorney

Yes, I walked over the top of the sedan. Several of my friends informed me that there was no visible damage to any part that I had come into contact with, but again I can't say the same myself due to my level of intoxication.

So my advice stands, no comments, no admiting anything and hiring an attorney. I had a 8 year old walk over my car a few years ago and it was several thousand in damages. So unless this was a 1950 buick that was built like a tank, I would say it did some damage. But unless they report it and the police connect the events, you may be OK on it.
