Hi, 2 of my guinea pig just died few days ago. They were about 3 month old. Before their death, they become very quiet, skinny ( u can feel the bones when you hold them), and barely move. Even if they are moving, they just drag their back leg along. They also lost their appetite. For info, I fed them with timothy hay, and other supp pallets. Not sure exactly what cause their death. Now, I got the same problem with the 3rd guinea pigs, and also the adult male. Do u have any idea on what have cause this? The adult female is healthy and not showing any health prob..

It sounds like it's something in your home. Did you take any of them to the vet when they started to get ill? If so, what did the vet say?

I would get the sick piggy checked out asap. There's really no way for us to pinpoint what's going on over the internet.

Good luck.

Yeah, I took all of them to vet. At first, I was told that this is due to furmite that makes my piggy weak. So he fed all my piggy with liquid type med. Then, the next day, 2 died. So I brought them to other vet. This time he said that my piggy having diarrhea, so it becomes weak. Now I'm feeding my piggy with the med given. And today, the adult male which was healthy before this, showing the same symptom. I didn't fed both my adult piggy with the med as they were healthy before.

Is your vet a guinea pig specialist? Guinea pigs are considered exotic pets. Not all vets know how to care for them. I think it's time to search for a vet that knows about guinea pigs.

Did the vet do any testing at all?

I really wish I could tell you what's going on, but I'm not a vet, and even if I was, I'd have to see them, do tests, before I could tell you. Anything else would be a guess, and a guess at this point could kill the piggy's you have left.

I'd really get a second opinion from a new vet.

The best way to keep guinea pigs healthy is by giving them greens as much as possible. I think the lack of vegetables and fruit is the key factor to the deaths.
