Have a 3 month old pomo puppy that is housed trained pretty good, yet at feeding time he screams for his food wanting it right away. Have two other dogs, lab mix male and a chi-mini-pin, that are males too. At feeding time it is a freezy with new puppy and other dogs. What training can be used to get new puppy to wait for his turn to eat? Rockon12

I train all my dogs to wait.

To do this I place a piece of food on the floor, make sure the dog knows it is there and then place my hand over it.
The dog will try to get to the food so I gently push them away with my hand on their chest and tell them to 'wait'.
Eventually the pup will get frustrated that it can't get to the food and stop trying to push forward.
That is when I praise them and give them the treat.

Once they stop trying to get the food under your hand I then just place the food on the floor without covering it and place my hand on the dogs chest so it can't move forward again.
Again, I tell them to 'wait' and eventually they will stop trying to get to the food.
Praise and give the treat once they have calmed down.

It takes time but eventually they connect the word 'wait' with sitting patiently and waiting for your OK to take it.

You can use a command such as "eat" or "dinner time" when they are finally given the treat if you prefer.
