Hi all.
I'm miserable.
Most of you know that I have IBS. I was just told that I have cysts on my ovaries as well. Let's not even start about my other stupid issues. I swear I'm falling apart.
A body transplant, although a novel idea, is not possible.
I'm not currently being treated for the cysts, they want another ultrasound, hoping they'll disappear. If the pain in my side is anything to go by, they're not going anywhere. :(
That pain I can tolerate though.
The IBS is what's keeping me in bed the last few days. I don't get many "attacks" but when I do it's horrible. I'm currently on the 4th day of horrible right now, and I'm at the end of my rope.
Yes, I've done meds. Yes, I've done a diet change. I've tried everything other then a voodoo doctor, and that's only because I can't find one!
Does anyone have a home remedy to ease the pain? I'm not asking for a cure, I know there isn't one, I just want some relief.
Anything?
I'd shoot shark pee up my nose at this point, if it will help.

Hello. I haven't been on here for a while so I don't know if you remember me! Either way, I'm sorry you are going through so much pain. :(
Are there any remedies you have already tried? My parents are really into Indian home remedies for medical problems and aches and pains. There are a lot of articles on the internet that you could look through, but I'm sure you've already looked at a lot.
Here's one I found: Irritable bowel syndrome Home Remedies - Irritable bowel syndrome Treatment - Natural Remedies & Cure for Irritable bowel syndrome (http://www.natural-homeremedies.org/homeremedies-irritablebowel.htm)
One common remedy for intestinal problems is Tumeric powder. You can probably find this at an Indian food store and maybe even at a grocery store or online. To use it you have to mix about tablespoon with water to make a paste and swallow it. It doesn't taste too great, but great thing about herbal remedies is that there are usually no side effects so it's worth a try.

I actually haven't checked into Indian home remedies. I'm definitely willing to give it a try. I'll try anything at this point.
Of course I remember you. It's been a long time. Good to see you back. :)
Thanks for the link. :)

Wrong end for me to know much about it, but I had a research assistant with IBS that swore by peppermint oil capsules that she obtained at a health food store. Also peppermint tea, as I recall. There seems to be quite a bit of support for the treatment. Ex Peppermint (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/peppermint-000269.htm) Univ of Maryland, and other on-line resources. (Google > Peppermint and Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
Also ran your related diagnoses and found an older discussion group with some interesting patient info here (http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=3434)

I just read this link. It sounds like ovarian cysts/tumors are closely connected to and maybe even cause IBS symptoms. Good sleuthing!

There is also a peppermint tea that you could try. I think it is made by Lipton

Ouch! I had a cyst just a couple weeks ago for the first time. I was miserable. I ended up in the ER it hurt so bad and I had no idea what it was at first. They gave me some heavy duty painkillers and suggested a heating pad. I don't like taking such heavy meds if I can avoid it so I mostly stuck to the heating pad. Have you tried that yet?

I actually haven't tried the heating pad. I definitely will though.
I love peppermint tea, so I'll definitely try that too.
I'll also look into the Indian remedies.
Like I said, I'm willing to try anything at this point. :)

Oh, one question.
JC (Just curious), what happened with the cyst?
This is the first time, that I know of, that I've had one, well, a few apparently. I'm in so much pain, I feel like my ovaries are being ripped apart. At first I thought something was wrong with my kidneys, but it turns out that's not the case.
I'm peeing blood, I can barely stand, and the only thing the doctor has told me is that they want another ultrasound in 6 - 8 weeks (which would be another 4 weeks from now) to see if the cysts are gone.
Gone? Where? They don't seem to be going anywhere.
Sorry, I'm at the end of my rope. Pain I can handle, I've had pain, but this is really getting stupid. My house is a mess because I'm in too much pain to clean. The only thing that helps is sleeping, so I don't have to deal with it.
I know, pass me a bit of cheese to go with my whine. ;)

Oh, peeing blood? Really? That would not be associated with ovarian cysts. That's a kidney related symptom.
As far as the IBS, I wish I could help more. :(

I went in in a lot of pain and they did a bunch of tests and an ultrasound and they said that it was just one small cyst. I think they said it looked like it had ruptured (I wasn't in nearly as much pain by that point but it was about 3 am or so, so I still wasn't all there) and that they usually just sort of disappear basically. They warned me to watch out for any really heavy bleeding and to come back if the pain wouldn't respond to the meds they'd given me and gave me a referral to a gynecologist. I saw him, he examined me but since I wasn't in pain anymore by then he sent me home and said to come back in a few more weeks for an ultrasound just to make sure everything was still OK.
Does your doctor know you're peeing blood?

Yes, he knows about the blood, that's why I was sent in for an ultrasound to begin with, they found blood in my urine. At that time I was shocked, because I hadn't noticed any blood. Now I do. It comes and goes, some days there seems to be nothing, other days, like today, there's more. Enough to wear a panty liner, but not heavy enough to fill a panty liner. Sorry for the tmi everyone.
I thought it was my kidney's at first. I have had kidney stones, and I thought I was passing one, that's how much it hurt. The ultrasound didn't show any stones, just cysts.
I'm going to go back to my doctor tomorrow, see if there's something he can give me, or if I should go back early for my next ultrasound. All I know is I can't keep this up. I can't get anything done. I just want to curl up in the fetal position and suck my thumb. Yesterday the pain was tolerable, today it's unbearable :(
Seriously, where's the cheese to go with my whine? ;)

I have to spread the love.
Thanks J. I thought it was my kidney's too. That's why I went to my doctor, because my sides hurt, were my kidney's are. At first he thought kidney infection, so he did a blood test and a urine test. The urine test came back showing blood, so he asked for a second one, and same thing. No infection though.
That's when I went in for the ultrasound. I really thought it would be kidney stones because I've had them in the past. The US showed no stones, but did show the cysts. Then of course there's the IBS, which doesn't help either.
It's not a lot of blood, not enough to really have me too worried, but enough that I know something's not right. The bleeding I can deal with, it's the pain that I can't, and I have a pretty high tolerance to pain.
I seriously just need a new body. Something in a size 6 would be nice. :)
I should mention that the pain comes and goes, the cyst pain that is. Yesterday it was only my IBS that was bothering me, and my sides hurt a little. Today the pain is unbearable in my sides, so bad I can't really stand straight.

Did your doctor diagnose a disease at all?
It could possibly be endometriosis.
You should check into it

When I had my colonoscopy the doctor told me I had IBS. The ultrasound around 4 weeks ago found cysts on my ovaries. I guess that's a diagnosis. :)
Today has been the worst day. I've been throwing up, in a lot of pain, nauseous, weak, and bleeding quite a bit. Sadly my doctor is away right now, so I can't get in to see him until Monday.
I'm actually thinking about going to the hospital, that's how crappy I feel. Only thing is, I'm afraid to drive myself, I'm very dizzy. Hubby is on nights, so he can't take me.
I've had enough of this. I'm so done, stick a fork in me. :(

Alty, please go to the hospital. They symptoms you are describing doesn't sound like it's from cystic ovaries to me. I had ovarian cysts the size of grapefruits when I was young and I didn't have blood, even when they burst, until I had endometriosis and endometrial cysts. Those require medical attention. By the way, usually most of the pain is when they burst and once they do you generally tend to have relief until they grow again. However, these cysts can also get twisted and this usually causes severe sharp pain and you should obtain immediate medical attention if the pain is sharp in case the ruptured or twisted cyst has become infected.
Someone mentioned endometriosis... that is a very strong possibility, especially because you have bleeding. A heating pad may help with the pain, but I think your symptoms are severe enough you should go to emergency. Call an ambulance if you can't find a neighbour or friend to take you. If you have large cysts they can push on the bowels and cause a lot of pain, too.
For the IBS 2 or 3 drops of peppermint oil in 1/4 to 1/3 cup of warm water should help. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and veggies and remember that stress management is imperative. A food diary will definitely be a huge help with your IBS and I know there are some great books out there about the proper diet for someone with IBS. You must eliminate the foods that you are allergic to, make sure there is at least 3 hours between meals, get appropriate sleep and exercise regularly.
I hope you are feeling better soon, sweetie. I know the pain...
Hugs, Didi

Thanks everyone.
I'm still in pain today, but not as bad as I was. The bleeding is not as bad, but still there. It's all brown blood, so old blood. I'm not entirely sure it has anything to do with the pain. I will get it checked out, doctors appointment tomorrow.
I'm weary about going to the hospital because I don't have 2 days to sit in a cold room waiting for someone to tell me what's going on. I'd rather see my doctor if I can, but I promise that if the pain or bleeding gets worse I will go to the hospital. I'd just rather avoid it if I can. :)
I've been drinking peppermint tea and it does seem to be helping, as my pain is not nearly as bad as it was. I've also been eating lots of fruits. I'm craving fruits. I guess it's my bodies way of telling me what I need. Hubby is going out to get more fruit right now, I can't seem to get enough, especially oranges. No, I'm not pregnant. ;)
Hugs to all of you. Thank you so much for all of the advice, I really appreciate it. :)
