I have suffered with chronic constipation since being pregnant with my daughter (who is now 2)i am only able to pass small amounts of stool at a time (with a lot of straining) even if I feel I really have to go,in the main the stool is small and pebble like.
However the most painful and worrying part for me is that even if my stomach is upset for some reason, and the stool is waterlike I am still unable to pass it without straining and only a small amount at time, this causes horrendous cramping.
My doc has prescribed various different laxactives but they just give me very loose stools and although they become somewhat easier to pass although I am still straining just not as much,I still only pass a small amount a time and so am running to the loo every 5 minutes.
My doc has said he doesn't see any need for a referral to the hosp, and persits with the laxactive route.
Should I seek a second opinion ?

Have you tried Miralax? This is what the doc suggested for my son. He has the same problem.

Miralax has to be taken daily, and it can take months before there is 100% relief. My son is just now getting relief and he's been on it daily for 4 months. Laxatives can be dangerous and addictive. Miralax is NOT a laxative.

Maybe it's time to seek a second opinion from another doctor.
