My husband is a Canadian citizen. I am an American. We have been married for about a year but separated for more than half that time because of the immigration laws. We married in the US, but 7 months ago when I went to go meet his parents in Canada we found out he could not come back into the US and I could not go back into Canada... so we've been painfully separated ever since.

I don't know the first thing about obtaining a divorce, much less how to go about divorcing a non US citizen banned from US soil.

Is there someone that can inform me of the process and offer me a ballpark estimate of what something like this could cost me.

Let me see, why can't he go bck into the US, why can't you go back into Canada.

I will assume you married without even contracting INS and finding out the rules for marriage to someone not from the US.

I would say if you are really in love, then you would not want to divorce but find a way to go and live with the other. I would say that since there are places where there is not even a border guard from US to Canada, merely driving to a area where you just drive across the border into Canada and just more there to be with them should be an easy option.

Or more than a 1000 ways to cross the border that illegals do every day in the US.

If you did not love each other why did you get married ? If you love each other, why get a divorce over a legal issue?

If both parties agree to the divorce, it can be done easily by having each party sign the divorce papers , have them witnessed ( mail them back and forth) and the attorney file them. At least in our area here the couples don't even appear in court if it is an agreed to divorce
