I have two wall switches for a ceiling fan and light kit. Originally only the fan was installed. I am now adding a light kit to the fan. I installed the kit to the fan and wired the blue to black and white to white, but the light will not operate from the wall switch. Upon opening the switch box for the light it is single pole switch with a red and black wire. I opened the fan switch and it has a loose single red/white wire wire nutted coming from the fan controller. I assume this has to be wire (or juppered) to the light switch, but not sure how to do this. Does it go to the red or black wire?

Normally you would use a 14/3 and pigtail another hot from the infeed to the second switch. Have you looked in the ceiling box? In the ceiling box you should have a black, a red(blue, yellow or gray), neutral and ground. Do you have that? If not, you can't run 2 switches. If so, you need to trace the hot infeed, add 2 pigtails, one to each switch and then 1 black to the fan and the red to the blue for the fan. The 1 neutral wire goes to the white of the fan and ground to fan base. An alternative is to add a universal remote, then you only need 1 hot and the remote controls the fan and light. Fan black and blue are connected to the hot feed from the remote.
