We bought this house 3 years ago. Every inch had been completely redone. It's a 2 storey house with a full basement. The bathroom on the second floor has a tub and a stand alone shower. We just noticed a few months now that every time we take a shower there's an awful
Smell that comes from the shower drain. IT ONLY SMELLS AFTER A SHOWER. We thought it was residue so we have tried the bleach overnight,the baking soda+vinegar and even Mr.Plumber.
It still smells, the only way to get rid of it is we let the cold water run a few minutes after each shower. That seems to work temporarily. WE are worried it might be return sewer gases or even mold.What do you think we should do? Do we need a plumber? The drains work really well there seems no problem. The other sinks and toilet on the other floors are fine.Please help!!

When you used the bleach, the Mixture of baking Soda and vinegar did you wait overnight and put very hot water the in the drain next day? If not do it again and put a big pot of very hot water not boiled water.
Hair and soap mixed will make the bad smell, good luck.

I would suggest that you take the strainer off the shower drain and use a coat hanger to reach into it and see if you can pull any really severe buildup of hair/soap scum back up and out of the drain. Hair/soap build up in this case may not cause a slow drain but could still siphon the PTRAP of water (via capillary action) and cause sewer gasses to escape into the home.

If opening/clearing the PTRAP doesn't produce any results then you could have a blocked VENT here... a little tougher to fix... *UGH*.

On a shower in a women's room, turned out to be hair and soap. Used a little drain blaster tube I picked
Up in a thrift store. No more smelly shower. Thanks
