I have a Kenmore model 417.81142000 clothes dryer that would not restart yesterday after I removed a few items and attempted to resume operation. Today it started up just fine, but I'm concerned that something is soon to go out. Any thoughts as to what might be happening? I'd like to nip the problem early if I can. Thanks.

Driers have safety switches that are heat controlled. What has happened is that your drier is full of lint, but not the kind that can be vacuumed out. You will need to take out the drum and get to the ducts to scrape out the hardened on lint and deposits to return it to a like-new condition. You will have to remove all the parts you can and wash them out to remove the lint that hardens on like concrete. You will just have to use your eyes to see what to do; every drier is different. Usually where the elements are located collects the most dirt and lint and the safety t-stats are located there to prevent fires. Driers are the number-one fire starter in the U.S. and the safeties are there to prevent a fire. DrTom4444
