I'm 12 and I really want to lose weight, now I know I'm not huge but my sister is a stunning blond with a flat tummy. She calls me fat all the time and says its just a joke but it really hurts my feelings and if I ever try to talk about it with my mum she just tells me to stop being stupid and that I have alovely figure. I don't believe her and it just makes me feel worse about myself... *** help :(

I'm sorry to hear about the taunting remarks your sister gives you. I am a younger sister myself and I know how much of an impression that type of dynamic can leave.

At your age you have a lot of energy and I would recommend getting into a sport or hobby (like cycling or skating). You can bring healthy fitness habits into your teenage years as long as you're eating a good variety of foods (staying away from excessive candy and fast food), and staying active.

Being an adolescent or pre-adolescent is a difficult age for many young adults and self-image is always tricky. Having an active lifestyle while experiencing success in your hobbies may help you to feel better about yourself.

Hope this helps!

I agree, being active and making sure you have healthy eating habits is important. But make sure you are actually eating healthy. Some people misinterpret healthy eating to mean stop eating and that's completely wrong. You need to have a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid junk food such as greasy chips, candy, and soda but don't feel like you have to completely deprive yourself of those things.

And self confidence is really the most attractive quality. So learning to love yourself regardless of size is really important.

I agree with everyone 100%. I also want you to remember that you are not your sister. The two of you may have completely different body types.

Great point. In this and many other scenarios it is important to know that siblings share parents but often little else. We are all unique and beautiful people!

I spent too much time comparing myself to my sister when I was younger.

First you may not need to lose weight and if you do, you could ruin your health. So what is your weight and height ?

But you could be skinnier than your sister and she still call you names, that is what brothers and sisters often do. So listening to her and allowing it to effect you, and not listening to your mom is just hard to consider as a valid result
