Hey,

Back in 2008, I worked as a research scholar for 3 months (I was a single non-resident alien). I had a J-1 research scholar visa. So I filed a 1040EZ for year 2008. I did not do that on my own, but I did that online.
My question is, did I file the correct form or I should have filed a 1040NR-EZ? Because it seems that a non-resident alien should file a form 1040NR-EZ.

You SHOULD have file Form 1040NR-EZ. Plus Form 8843.

You need to amend the 2008 return by submitting Form 1040X with properly-prepared Forms 1040NR-EZ and 8843 attached.

If you need professional help filing your amendment, email me at [email protected].

Depending upon tax treaty with your country, your income may not be taxable for 2 years. You will file nonresident tax return and form 8843. Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Filing Requirements for Non-Residents (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-tax-filing-requirements-for-non.html)
