Hi, I am a 20 year old male in Ontario, Canada. This was my first offence. I was charged today with 2 accounts of theft under $5000, yes it was only once incidence where I stole two items from my college. I was back on campus to see a proffessor about some course information, and two police officers who were with a staff member came up to me and arrested me. They put me in the police car and brought me back to the station.

Once there, I talked with one of the officers in a room and did admit to taking these two items. The officer asked if I would be willing to return the items and I said I would.

Was this the right thing to do? Should I have just stayed quiet and called the family attourney??

Currently the school is not allowing me to be on the property and I have to appear for fingerprints and a photo, and two weeks later, appear in court.

I presume having the family attourney present is the best thing to do, but I am concerned with what will happen.

This is my first offence and have bever done anything like this before, I honestly do not know what I was thinking...

Any advice on this? And what will happen?

I wish there was a way to edit what you put after it has been entered. My blackberry likes to auto-correct when it shouldn't... I phrased things in an odd manner. I was NOT charged, but I WAS accused. I have not gone to court yet.

Hello J:

I wouldn't have admitted it, but that's water under the bridge... Yes, have your family attorney accompany you to ALL court appearances.
