Can't say what will happen in court, but I guess you don't have any liability insurance working in someone else's home doing work like this. How are they proving that it was your fault. Why are you golng into this thinking they will win. You will have to find the money for a lawyer; you can't go without one.

What state are you in?
Do you have a business license/contractor license?
Is liability insurance required to install stoves in your state?
(If you don't know find out.)
How soon after the installation did the fire happen?
Have you asked for a copy of the fire marshall's report?
You need to do some work instead of just worrying.
Call a few lawyers for a short minute of advice and see what their rates are.

Had to spread the rep, yet again, yes all good points. Can't just sit on your duff and worry about it, take action.
