Hi

I'm trying to figure out what saves more energy. Turning down the heat to 61 before going to bed and turn it back to 66 in the morning or leave it at 64 and turn it up to 66 in the morning. I've tried both ways and I can't really figure out what saves more energy.

When I turn it down to 61, it takes a little over two hours for the furnace to reach 66. If I leave it at 64, it takes about 45 minutes. I'm not sure how many additional minutes it uses to maintain the temp. at night at 66.

Can some experts give me some advice?

Thanks!

You can't cheap on energy. The 2 hours you need to run it in the morning are the same 2 hours it didn't run at night. Setting it to 64 only means it ran during the night when you were asleep and didn't hear it. Read your gas meter and follow consumption over a few weeks. However, you must also consider what the ambient temp is on those days. Confused? Most energy programs suggest a 5 degree set back at night.
