A friend on a social message board asked me this, and I want to make sure I have the facts before I answer her. I cleaned up text speak :)

my daughters bio father hasn't seen or talked to her in over a year. He just recently went to jail for a felony gun poss. I am going to court on Thursday to get sole custody and to terminate his visitation rights. But I would really like him to just sign his parental rights over. I mean he hasn't and most likely never will see or talk to her again. Plus my fiancé wants to adopt her after we get married. Does anyone know how I can file for termination of parental rights? When I filed for sole custody I asked them if I could file to terminate his rights and they said there is no way to do that, well if there is no way to do that then how in the **** have so many other women gotten the bio fathers rights terminated?

Read the sticky! She was told correctly. My question is where does she get an idea that so many women have gotten TPRs? This is just not factual.

After she remarries the step father can apply to adopt. Given the circumstances, the courts will likely issue a TPR if the father doesn't agree.

Actually, I am curious where this person got the idea that so many women are getting TPRs. I'd be curious to see the response.

I can ask. My bet is, the social site is a huge moms site, with over a million members, and 90% of the women on there like to lie to make there lives sound better. My bet is she is going off women who claim they had done it even if they had not. I had to walk away from that post anyway, many of them keep telling her to just charge him with abandonment no matter how many times I tell them that is NOT what abandonment means lol. They keep arguing. So I just stopped trying to tell them
