My furnace won't hold the temp the t-stat is set at. It seems to require a manual start (turn of then back on) We bought a new t-stat assuming that was the problem. But the issue keeps accuring, and is getting worse.

I tried turned furnace off and disconnected the t-stat & wires and connected the Red & White. I was told if this turns the furnace on then the t-stat is bad. Well I did that and it fires right up. I then turn the furnace off again and connect the wires to the t-stat and turn it all on. The furnace kicks on, click click then flame and heat pumps good for about 5 minutes then turns off... and I keep doing this trying to get back to 68 deg.

ANY HELP PLEASE?

Every thermostat has about a 4 degree band. When you set the temp. to 70 it will not come on until the temp. drops 4 degrees below 70. You can adjust this band by going in to the advance programming settings of the thermostat. Look at the instructions that came with the thermostat. You should be able to set it to within 2 degrees. This will cause the furnace to cycle on and off more often but if that is what it takes to make you more comfortable then do it. The other thing you should look at is the thermostat location. Make sure that it's not getting the air from a supply air vent blowing on to it. This will cause it to turn off prematurely. Hope this solves your problem. Let me know if it doesn't.
