View Full Version : Verifying symptoms/injuries

Greetings all! I have a question about medical procedure that could also have legal implications, and it is this: A subordinate recently "injured" herself on the job and is now seeking Workman's Compensation benefits. My skepticism arises out of the fact that the accident in question seems to have been very superficial in nature to result in the type of disabling injuries that she's now claiming. She has been receiving medical treatment but has yet to receive any definitive diagnosis, just constantly presenting with vague symptoms such as "excrutiating back pain", "memory loss" and "dizzy spells", among others. Frankly, I think she's trying to milk the system, so my question is could a physician or other care provider detect or suspect that a patient is "exaggerating" her symptoms? (In the interest of professionalism I'll avoid using the word "faking" but that's exactly what's on my mind!) Or does a physician just take everything (s)he's told at face value? And if a care provided did have such suspicions, would (s)he report that information to the relevant authorities? Thanking you in advance for your assistance.
