The Jaspers collect nickels, dimes, and quarters in a jar. When they count the change in the jar, there are twice as many nickels as there are quarters. If there is $15.30 in dimes and $74.80 in all, how many quarters are there?

If you say there are x quarters, how many nickels are there?

Since each quarter is worth $0.25, the total value of the quarters must be $0.25x. Using that same logic, can you tell me the total value of the nickels?

Now you can write your equation so that you can solve for x: the total value of the quarters plus the total value of the nickels plus the total value of the dimes equals $74.80.

So what do you get for an answer?
