This is an old heater in a closet hanging from the ceiling. Heating service people said it was using 15 amps. Air temp at vents reads 115 degrees The unit is in a condo. The KW used in Jan was 2700 KW vs 1500 KW last January 2010.

Look at the degree days for this Jan vs. last Jan. Electric heat may be efficient but it is expensive. What is your cost per KWH. @15 cents the bill is $405. How big is the house?

The meter readings reflect the same number of days and the temperature was the same as last January. It's a condo unit and other owners are using a thousand less KW for the same period. The only other piece of information I can offer is that the units above my unit and below are not occuppied this period.

Please refer to posting instructions regarding checking NO this is not helpful. Since you didn't fill out a profile I don't know whether you are in Detroit or San Diego and was offerring suggested reasons your electric bill was so high. There are so many variables, the primary one being how hot you keep your condo vs. others with "1000 KW less". You could be on the prevailing wind side. Make sure the degree days are the same this year as last, not by the number of days. That info. Should be on your bill. Is the heat turned off in the unit above you? If you really think something wrong, have the utility recalibrate the meter.
