Here is a picture of the homework that I am working on and have trouble doing. So far, I have made it up to the following in setting up the problem to get the answer; however, I am having trouble with finding the "average shares outstanding."
Earnings Per Share= ( Net Income - Preferred Stock Dividends ) / Average Common Shares Outstanding.
I have the equation for year 2006 and 2005 set up as followed:
2006 2005
= (23,516-0) / (69,716, 682+ ?) =(19,353-0) / (72,152,844+ ?)

Again, thanks for your help. It really does help to have someone help me with Accounting because it takes me awhile to just do the problems, let alone get the answers correct.
