We installed a geyser a couple of weeks ago and pressure tested and everything and everything was fine (no leaks) then the electrician came through and installed the isolator for the geyser and every since there has been heated water in the system the PRV has been leaking out the top... The PRV is above the geyser just before the cold water enters the geyser. If it is the expansions from the hot water, do you suggest we move the PRV further away from the draincock.

Confused. You said PRV which is a pressure reducing valve. They don't leak. Could you mean a T&P release valve (temperature and pressure)

If you are talking about a T&P valve (temperature and pressure relief valve) then it sounds like you guys have created a "closed system" in some way (electrician's isolation valve?) and now you need an EXPANSION TANK to be installed into the COLD water line to allow for expansion when the water is heated.

Moving the T&P valve will NOT make a difference... ;)

Thank for writing back really appreciate it... No the PRV is definitely what's leaking and I opened it up and cleaned everything in case there might have been dirt in there but still carried on leaking. So are you suggesting I buy a expansion tank.

To stop the PRV from leaking...

Hi Devon...

As Hkstroud said, PRVs don't really leak except out the top by the thumb screw (see image). Is yours leaking out the thumb screw on top or are you saying that the PRV is leaking by and allowing an increased pressure into the home/heater?

I have also posted a picture of a temperature and pressure relief valve... see image.

Confirm which valve you have and let us know a little more here and we will see what we can come up with, OK?
