What happens if you owe less in child support than what the amount your getting back in taxes? Say you owe 510 and your getting a 1000 back what happens there?

They are separate issues. Child support is just that. For the person paying it they can not claim it as a deduction. For the person collecting it they don't not have to report it as income.

If your filing your taxes and you are legally entitled to deduct the child then that is your child deduction to take regardless of the child support issue.

Are you assuming they will garnish your taxes?

If they garnish your taxes, you get the balance,

If they don't garnish your refund, you write them a check when it comes in
