We have a new 9 week old puppy. Starting today, after receiving worm medicine she has soft pudding like diarreah with small amounts of bright red blood in it, it also has mucous in it a little too. Wondering what I should try for this problem?

I know for sure the mucous is not a problem; the fresh blood would mean an almost topical problem. If it was anything other then bright red, I would worry too. You are very observant pg, that's good. It could be an effect of just the worming. Pup is eating and drinking okay, I would guess, right ? If you are extremely worried, call your vet and just check in with him. There is nothing you can do yourself.

Puppies will eat almost anything until they learn. We had a puppy once that ate food covered aluminum foil out of the garbage, and did some bleeding after words as the foil came through. It was obvious though, you could see the foil in her scat. The small specks of blood looking material could be dead worms too.

WORMS!! What are you worming with? Stuff from the vet or stuff from the pet store? If its stuff from the store, take it back! That stuff typically doesn't work. Blood in the stool with mucus with a patty like poo is a good indicater of worms. Your dog could also be having a reaction to the wormer itself.

If the wormer came from the vet, give them a call. Typically they will talk to you about symptoms before bringing it in. Does the poo smell horrible? Parvo, giardia and coccidia which all have blood and mucus in soft stool have a very distinct smell and will usually knock you off your feet.

Give your pup some electrolytes (pedialyte or gatoraide) to maintain hydration. If it continues after 24 hours, or until your vet is open, take her back in. Puppies can crash and burn very fast.
