Hello,

I sold a piece of land in Greece. I received 174,000 euros from the sale. When my attorney wired the funds, into my account, in the States, I received 257 euros less. I tried to find out the bank charges, but I am having trouble getting information from the banks. Do foreign banks charge that much in fees to wire funds?

For next time, when I sell another piece of land should I have the foreign bank convert the euros into dollars before they wire the funds or should I just have them wire euros? What is the best deal?

Thank you

The best deal is who offers the best conversion and lowest bank wire fees at the time (they will change). And the best exchange rate.

If they only charged you 257 euros on an amount that large... you got a pretty good deal.

Finding the best places will take a bit of research... not all banks have the same fees... or give the same exchange rate... but do hover around the daily established exchange rate.

I have to do that annually in Italy... and Greece will be no different.
