Maybe he is rather young and nervous and doesn't know what to do with a girls number. Maybe he just wanted to see if he could get a girls phone number. I don't know, but you could ask why he asked for it. Or you can let it go, and move your interest elsewhere. I would talk to him, and see if he was interested, scared, immature or what, then decide what to do about it.

He has a phone, but like you said "young" and he certainly acts childish.
