Is she leashed? If not, leash her - or use a muzzle leash.

Thumping on the nose frequently is painful and can injure the dog.

Hitting is meaningless as training, most especially on the face, and only serves to make a dog fearful of a hand reaching toward them - angry even.
Your dog is getting ahead of you because you let him. Choke way up on the leash and say 'heel' very loud, short and sharp. Do this over and over and over, and praise when he does.
Make sure he is getting enough run and play time first, or his eager running and jumping will just be that much more difficult to stop.

The amswer to your question is a whole book. Try reading Cesar Millian's training book Cesar's Way. Yiour dogs wants to lead the pack and you must be the leader. Get a leash with a choke chain the right size for him and hold the leash in your left hand just above the snap. As you walk say his anme and "heal" every time. When you stop give just a slight tug on the leash to stop him. You can see Cesar on the ntional Geo channel if you have DISH or cable. Bet your guy goes through the doorway ahead of you and sameon stairs, right? Stop him from doing that too, you must show him you are the Alpha dog in your pack.
