My son is 20. He has always had mental health issues, ADHD, ODD, Depression, obsessive/compulsive behavior. Received treatment as a minor. Has been in couple mental health facilities during that time frame. Now as a adult, these issues don't just go away. But he will not seek help. He has multiple felony charges on him and on probation for 7 years for which he has served 2 years without any issues up to recently. I have noticed changes in his mental status, thought process, decision making process, motoskills, c/o headaches, throwing up, staying closed up in his darkened bedroom sleeping most of the time when not at work. He recently has been charged with burgarly, property damage and theft. After this occurred it was brought to my attention for apparently over quite some time now he has been huffing air duster which now explains changes noted. He recently wrecked his car due to blacked out at the wheel which I fould out he apparently huffed prior. Knowing with these charges there was a great chance his probation was going to be revoked. My son finally broke down into tears talking to me why he had to have all these problems at which time he admitted to his huffing. He would not agree to see a counselor but agreed to see his pcp and tell all and ask for help. Unfortuantly he was arrested prior to his dr appt. and was unable to keep it. He has recently posted bond and is out. As a concerned mother, knowing if he indeed is guilty of the charges that he was not in any normal frame of mind, no judgement, etc. I was at my end as to help him get treatment he needs which jail or prison time is not going to help the whole picture with his mental issues. I contacted his probation office asking how to get help for him. Explaining past and what changes I have recently noted, Only because I saw can of air duster in his room, and room smelled funny did I let his probation officer know of his problem with the air duster. Now I am torn to pieces if I did more harm than good, will my information put him back in jail and probation again revoked which just be the end of my son. He would lose everything, job, unable to meet his financial obligations. Or will the PO try to get the help he needs. Can PO put him back in jail with this knowledge? Did I make a big mistake in telling PO or just wait until someone finds him dead? As I said, I am just torn up. HELP!
